09 Jan Wood On Water – Full Film
Woo Hoo! Finally our Wood on Water canoe tripping film about an all female wilderness canoe tripping adventure is available to watch in full via NRS, our sponsors youtube channel. A journey that’s been nearly three years in the making. Enjoy, share and let us know what you think!
Thanks to all our wonderful Kickstarter backers who believed in us from the start when we launched our successful campaign in 2019 raising over £28,000. A pandemic definitely hasn’t been the ideal time to launch a film but we’ve tried to make the best of the situation and are very happy to have had Wood on Water screened at several virtual and in-person film festivals in 2021 including Kendal Mountain Film Festival, ShAFF, Fresh Coast film Festival, Feminista and DocLands. We also enjoyed a private screening with our Keewaydin Community.
The film itself provides candid interviews and raw footage, reflective moments and internal musings. Wood on Water canoe tripping film incorporates history and tradition woven into the modern teenage girl’s attitude. It’s a story of many threads as it follows the journey of nine teenage girls, two women guides and a female filmmaker on an epic canoe trip through northern Quebec.
Max and I are so pleased, and proud, to have played our parts in telling this story and we’re excited to share it with you all. Hopefully it will even inspire boys and girls from the next generation to pick up a paddle and a wannigan. When people meet in the wilderness and get the chance to explore their physical surroundings and their inner selves, free from mainstream society’s expectations – that’s when precious moments of palpable, uninhibited joy and self-worth can be found. It can be a positive challenge to step up our game and a moment in our short existence, where we can reclaim what we want…and what we need!
Please do share the excitement on your own social networks and where possible on Instagram and facebook please include myself @maiamedia, our brand supporter @nrsweb and where our story is set and one of the oldest summer camps in the world, the wonderful @keewaydincamp_temagami – we would all love to feel part of the buzz.
